establishment

The Punjabi Cultural Association was established in July 1955. In mid fifties many Punjabis settled in Pune after partition of our Motherland.
A group of Punjabis led by Late. Shri. Balbir Singh Lamba started social and cultural activities with their families. Regular get-togethers were arranged. Subsequently the Punjabi Cultural Association was formed and registered as a Trust on 23rd May 1958 under the Bombay Trust act 1950. Late Mrs. Santosh Lamba was the First President.

journey history

The Association started functioning smoothly and celebration of functions like festival of Harvest Baisakhi and Festival of Winter Lohri became the regular feature of the association.
There were some ups and downs in the activities of the Association due to the unfortunate and untimely death of Shri. Balbir Singh. However some other well wishers like late Shri. G.C.Jandial alongwith Late Shri.Varma brought the Association on the road and it started moving ahead. Members dream to have own hall got momentum.

upgradations since then

Late Shri. Vasdev Kochhar, President Purchased a land in Gultekdi in the year 1974 with the approval of Managing Committee.
With the Sincere and dedicated efforts of late Shri. Vasdev Kochhar, Late Shri, B.D.Sareen and late Shri. Prakash Singh Presidents, a Foundation stone was laid in 1979 by Late Shri. Prakash Singh. Late Shri. Vasdev Kochhar performed the Bhoomi Pooja on 02.03.1979 and the construction of the present building thereon was completed subsequently. The Association is also grateful for Sincere devotion and personal initial contributions and concerted efforts of Late Sarvashri. S.P.Malhotra, K.L.Jolly, A.T.Gupta, O.P. Aurora, Inderpal Seth, R.N. get-togethers & celebrations

Initially , when we started our Association our Office was located in Library at M.G.Road. Our main aim was to do service towards the cause of brotherhood, communal harmony and national integration.

cultural programs

Over the years we used to organize a wide range of Cultural programs during Baisakhi Di-Raat Festival with typical Bhangra dancers & specifically flown in from Punjabi to make the program attractive. Various prominent Bollywood and Punjabi stars and political leaders were invited to grace the program.

get-togethers

We have Sunday Get-togethers with exciting Tombola and mouth watering subsidized Dinner. We have been conducting Free Medical camp on alternate Sundays with free consultant of physician and free distribution of medicines. Many poor and slum dwellers have benefitted from the Camp.

popular activity

Our highly popular activity in the monthly 'Milap Committee Meeting' where prospective brides and grooms from Pune, outskirts of Maharashtra and other parts of the Country meet and interact with the purpose of match making. This has been very successful and lot of marriages have been Settled.
There are about 1 Lakhs Punjabis residing in the entire Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad. The establishment of Punjabi Cultural Association has filled the void for Punjabi citizen's eager to keep in touch with their culture. Further Plans are on for the well equipped recreation club and health club. with modern facilities, so also we are starting free computer training courses for the benefit of the members. With all this, our main aim continues to preserve our Cultural and spread more awareness in the city about the Punjabi Lifestyle.
